MAN ProfiDrive: Sector-specific Training to Meet Customer Requirements in Malaysia

MAN Introduces New Training Program That Addresses Fuel Economy and Driving Safety

Kuala Lumpur, 18th May 2017 – MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MTBM) announced today that it is introducing a new training program, MAN ProfiDrive that is tailored towards individual customer requirements. The new sector-specific training helps address fuel economy and driving safety for particular transport assignments.

The launch of the program was officiated by Datuk Ab Aziz bin Kaprawi, Malaysia’s Deputy Transport Minister at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2017.

Hartmut Mueller, Managing Director of MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd said, “This new training program that focuses on the customer’s specific transport task enables us to more effectively help our customers lower their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). By equipping drivers with better vehicle handling and economical driving techniques, the training can help cut back on fuel consumption by as much as 10 percent and reduce the need for constant vehicle maintenance.”

The majority of the sector-specific ProfiDrive training for the drivers is hands-on and carried out with the drivers’ own loaded vehicles, which further increases the long-term learning effect of the training. The program can be conducted at any location and covers both practical driving skills as well as theoretical aspects of safety, economy and vehicle inspection.

With safety as a focal point in the ProfiDrive training, drivers are not only taught safe driving principles and given comprehensive knowledge on tyres, gearboxes and axles, safety regulations and accident prevention, they are also equipped with practical driving skills such as how to manage critical driving situations and handle different road surfaces; avoid obstacles; perform emergency braking and evasive maneuvers, among others.

Apart from the new sector-specific training module, the MAN ProfiDrive portfolio includes traditional modules for drivers and fleet managers on fuel-efficient driving and off-road driving training; modules for tankers and heavy-duty transporters as well as programs that are specifically tailored to the bus and transporter sectors.

During the MCVE, MTBM also showcased a specially configured truck for the Malaysia market which helps to save costs and increase safety – the MAN EfficientLine. With options like the AeroPackage, idle shutdown and cruise control features, fleet owners’ cost reduction target can be achieved easily. Features included in the truck like the Anti-Spin Regulator (ASR), MAN BrakeMatic (EBS) and Retarder system also help to enhance safety and minimize danger.

“Since the beginning, MAN has stay committed to provide top-quality, exceptionally reliable commercial vehicles that are perfectly tailored to our customer’s needs. We will continue to offer products and solutions to help fleet owners decrease their fleets’ life-cycle cost, while placing a strong emphasis on safety and reliability”, said Mueller.

myBAS Perlis to Drive with MAN

MARA Liner Signs Agreement for 27 MAN City Buses

Kangar, 27 April 2017 - MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MTBM) today announced it has signed an agreement with MARA Liner Sdn Bhd, to expand the existing fleet of myBAS Perlis as well as provide quality after sales service. The new MAN buses are based on the MAN 14.280 HOCL two-axle chassis and were built in cooperation with a local body manufacturer.

myBAS Perlis is part of the Stage Bus Service Transformation Program enforced by Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to provide better access to urban and rural communities. The service commenced operations in 2015 and to-date covers six trunk routes and four feeder routes, carrying an average of 1,200 passengers daily.

The signing ceremony between MTBM and MARA Liner and the handover of the 27 units of MAN A80 City buses were held at MARA Liner Perlis, in the presence of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Bin Syed Jaafar Albar, the Chairman of SPAD, and witnessed by representatives of myBAS Perlis.

Hartmut Mueller, Managing Director of MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd said, “We are delighted that MAN buses are selected to provide a highly modern and safe public transportation for the myBAS program. The superior quality and reliability of our vehicles have been crucial to this partnership with MARA Liner and we are very much looking forward to continuing our mutually-beneficial collaboration”.

The MAN A80 City bus for myBAS Perlis has a low entry design, making it extremely easy for passengers to board and exit, and can carry up to 41 passengers. The 10-metre bus is powered by a 280 hp (206 kW) diesel engine. Impeccably efficient and reliable for inner city transportation, it is also designed to be environmentally friendly with incredibly low fuel consumption and low noise emissions.

“The efficient fuel consumption and low life-cycle costs of MAN buses are among the main deciding factors for us when it comes to the vehicle of choice for the fleet expansion of myBAS Perlis. We are looking forward to an ongoing fruitful partnership with MAN, in enabling us to increase the quality of our service and create added value for our customers” said Zahrail Affenday bin Mohamed, Chief Operating Officer of MARA Liner Sdn Bhd.

As part of the 5-year contract with MARA Liner, MTBM will also undertake to provide technical competency and knowledge transfer to MARA Liner Service Center in Alor Setar through various the train-the-trainer apprenticeship programs.

Both MARA Liner Service Centers in Alor Setar and Kuantan are MTBM’s appointed service dealers. The partnership will also enable MTBM to provide more efficient and faster response to customers when it comes to after sales service and maintenance, via the MARA Liner network.
